Students from 4th grade through high school in south Louisiana are taking part in this project by establishing wetland plant nurseries at their schools. Students are growing native plant seedlings that they will plant in the fall in a coastal wetland restoration project in south Louisiana. The Coastal Roots Program began in 2001 as an education outreach project for the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program.

I learned from the fieldtrip that it helps the wetlands to plant trees. The trees keep the land from eroding away.

we really helped a lot and it was fun
I learned that the more trees that we plant, the more compact the soil is. Which means it is harder for erosion to take place, reducing land loss.
I learned that inorder for the hurrcanes to be less dangerous we need to help our wetlands the wetlands protect us.

I learned how helping to plant trees helps to save our land because the less trees we have makes the soil more loose and it will eventually be gone. Its also rewarding to know that you contributed to help Louisiana's environment.
I think the Costal Roots project was a lot of fun and I thought that it helped us learn about an important cause that could affect all of us and how we can pervent it and help it.
