Today we started on our wetland project! The purpose of our project is to extend the wetlands by planting cypress trees. We started today planting the seeds in little tubes and sticking them in trays. Our class alone got a significant amount of work done. Next Tuesday we will actually start building the can yard. The can yard is going to be really nice. It is going to have its own irrigation system! I can't wait to finish it so that it can be a special place for all the 6th graders to visit. - A.F.

Today my class started to plant cyprus seeds in small tubes. A cyprus seed is brownish in color and barely bigger then a grain of rice. The tubes we were using were yellow and rubbery. They were about nine inches long and about an inch in diameter.

We filled the tube 2/3 of the way full with soil. Next we packed the soil down. After packing the soil, we added two seeds. Lastly, we filled the rest of the tube with soil and packed it down.

We had trays that held multiple tubes. When we were done filling the trays our teacher watered the seeds.

We hope that all the seeds will grow into cyprus trees and we'll take them to the swamps and plant them. G.H.

Today we went out into the garden and filled up some yellow tubes with seeds and soil. After we were done filling them we put the tubes in the tube holders and watched our teacher water them. We are hoping that the seeds will grow to be healthy, big Cypress trees. M.P.

Today on April 30 the 6th graders planted Cypress tree seeds. We will keep up with them until the end of the year. And we hope most of them will sprout for next year because we will plant them in the wetlands. We had these yellow cups that we put soil in and than 3 seeds and then more soil. When it got to the top we had to make it compact so all of the soil would stay in and the seeds would grow! When we were finished we put the cups in trays, we filled up a lot of trays than Mrs. Marchal watered them. C.H.

Today in Science Class, we planted cypress seeds in little cup like containers. We have planted these so that next year we can go to the coastal wetlands and plant them. Planting these will help the environment in ways such as keeping erosion down, making the landscape a little more beautiful, and making a habitat for other plants and animals to live. I.J.
